Welcome to the Family!

It's with great Joy and excitement that I introduce to you Genuine Joy's newest, and first official, contributor Briana Berg!

For a few years, I've been writing about Fashion, Fitness, Culture and Culinary but, never cocktails.  And in full transparency, it's because I don't drink alcohol.  However, I realize that many people do.  Enter Briana!

Briana will embrace that element of lifestyle and write about cocktails, while still harnessing the Genuine Joy approach of trying something new, stepping outside of your comfort zone and enjoying the process.  She brings a new perspective and fresh content, all of which I know you'll really enjoy.  The first time I met Briana, I knew that she would be a perfect fit.  You know the feeling, when you meet someone for the first time and just click? Exactly what happened here.  I asked Briana to share a bit about herself, in her own words, so you too can get to know her a before she shares her first piece on Monday.

1)   Fashion: Do you have a “look”?

My style is really classic. I love great quality pieces that stand the test of time, and then I’ll pepper them with something fresh or au courant, like a bold statement necklace or patterned scarf. A quality pair of jeans, a sexy LBD, and a timeless bag are staples in my wardrobe.

2)   Fitness: Are you currently training for a race?

I am currently training to run in the Baltimore Half Marathon on October 12th. As much as I love running, training has definitely been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I’ve been training with a good friend, which has truly made all of the difference. Sometimes I forget that we’re running because we’re talking so much! I do however miss yoga and Pilates. I am easily bored, so I constantly have to mix up my workouts. Running almost every day has been a mental game for me. Post race, I think I will be really proud of myself, but I might take some time off from running.

3)   Culture: Tell us about your favorite vacation.

I studied abroad for five months in Paris. My semester abroad was like one long, extravagant vacation. When my parents came to visit we drove up to Normandy American Cemetery. It’s one of the most memorable moments I have from my entire time abroad.  It’s such a powerful place to be. I still get chills thinking about it.

4)   Culinary: Favorite restaurant and why?

That’s easy! It would have to be Pastis in New York. French cooking can be both so simple and so elaborate and Pastis captures both elements so well. Anything on their menu is going to be good whether it be croque-madame at brunch or streak frites at dinner. Truthfully, I enjoy almost every restaurant I eat at. My boyfriend makes fun of me because I always say everything is amazing, everywhere we go!

5)   Wildcard: Tell us your favorite quote.

My mom sent me a card that had this quote on the front: “The one thing all famous authors, world class athletes, business tycoons, singers, actors, and celebrated achievers in any field have in common is that they all began their journeys when they were none of these things. – Mike Dooley

My mom sent me this card right after I started my first job out of college. It’s a really positive reminder that it’s ok to start small and that you’ll get there someday. When I look at it hanging in my room, I remember to be patient and enjoy the process.

I had never heard that quote until meeting Briana and it has quickly become one of my favorites as well.  I, too, love Pastis and I'm that sure sooner, rather than later, we will enjoy a working dinner there together!

Briana will share with Genuine Joy the in's and out's of wine tasting on Monday, but in the meantime, you can connect with her on twitter @Briana_One_N .

Welcome to the family, Briana!
