As evidenced by this post, when it comes to make-up, I know very little. I consider myself feminine, a girly-girl, but this is a topic of which I am always learning new techniques, about new products and what to use where. Enter Kara Manos, Creative Director of my go to beauty site, Politics of Pretty. Today, Kara tells us about melt proof make-up, perfect for this blazing summer heat. Kara...
What I love about summer: trips to the beach, lounging poolside, sleepless nights. What I don’t love about summer: mosquito bites, DC humidity and makeup melting off my face. Needless to say, I don’t have much control over mosquito bites and the humidity, but I can manage my summer makeup routine. From primers to shadow sticks, I’ve rounded up my favorite products for a melt-proof makeup look.
You know what the secret behind a flawless melt-proof beauty look? Primer. Behind eye and face makeup is a really great primer. First, start with your eyes. I love Laura Mercier Eye Basics because it keeps my eye makeup in tact and it conceals tiny veins on my lids. Ever since Benefit Cosmetics unveiled their new Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer, I’ve been hooked. The stick formula has long-lasting power and doesn't produce a flaky/sticky residue.
I like to keep my eye makeup as simple as possible in the summer (mainly because I don't want to deal with powder shadows that crease and partly because I'm lazy. Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes is my go-to for hot and humid temperatures. These creme-based shadows absorb in to skin quicker so you don't have to deal with any awkward creases.
Waterproof mascaras are a staple for the summer. Even if you don't prefer swimming or dips in the ocean, Maybelline Rocket Waterproof Mascara will keep lashes in tact through water, tears or sweat. (Quick tip - I always like to apply mascara first before liquid eyeliner. Why? Because it's easier to swipe on over any smudged mascara.) And yes, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner is my favorite -- the name says it all.
While I typically avoid lipsticks in the summer, my makeup bag is always filled with tinted balms and lip stains for a pretty pout. For nourished lips, I recommend L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm, which also adds just a hint of color.
And last, but certainly not least ... the best secret to stay all day makeup? A setting spray. You can scoop up this E.L.F Studio makeup Mist & Set for just $3 that you can mist over your face before you head outside.
